Chris Hardwick Returns to AMC With New Video Podcast

[

Chris Hardwick has returned to AMC to host the video podcast I Think You’re Overthinking It for AMC+ as well as AMC Global Media’s All Reality, FAST channels, YouTube and digital/podcast platforms. The show will premiere on Sunday, May 31.

Hardwick hosted The Walking Dead companion podcast Talking Dead from its inception in October 2011 until it ended in November 2022 — with one very public monthlong hiatus. Hardwick was temporarily dropped as Talking Dead host after abuse allegations surfaced in an essay by his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra. Following an investigation by AMC, during which Yvette Nicole Brown filled in as host, Hardwick (@midnight) was reinstated. Dykstra did not participate in the AMC investigation.

Dykstra never directly identified Hardwick in her original essay, but she described being in a relationship with a high-profile man, alleging that during their relationship the man had sexually assaulted her, imposed restrictive rules on her and triggered an eating disorder.

Following the allegations, Hardwick’s name was removed from the Nerdist website he founded. After the AMC investigation, Hardwick’s name was reinstated to the Nerdist website.

I Think You’re Overthinking It, which will tape its 12 hourlong episodes in Los Angeles, focuses on pop culture, movies, TV, music and comedy. Planned guests include Billy Magnussen (The Audacity, Lilo & Stitch), Alison Brie (Glow, Community), Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, Castle), Jason Ritter (Matlock, Captain Fall), Eli Roth (Ice Cream Man, Borderlands) and Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Fargo).

“We are delighted to collaborate and reunite with Chris, who has an unmatched ability to tap into the heart of pop culture — whether its music, movies, TV and all the wonderful corners of fandom — and turn that curiosity into smart, entertaining conversation,” said Ben Davis, executive vice president of scripted programming for AMC Global Media. “This podcast is a natural extension of the world our audiences love, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring his voice and perspective back into the AMC Global Media family.”

“AMC and I had been looking for the right way to work together again after Talking Dead wrapped in 2022 and this felt like a natural fit. I stepped away from podcasting that same year for a bit during a parenting hiatus, and when I brought the show back last year, it evolved into I Think You’re Overthinking It. The podcast has always been rooted in conversations about curiosity, anxiety, fandom, creativity, all the ways our brains can spiral when we care deeply about something and how to get out of our own way. When AMC saw an opportunity to expand it into a video series, it felt like the perfect next step,” said Hardwick.

I Think You’re Overthinking It is a co-production with AMC Studios and ID1OT with Drama 3/4 producing.
