Elizabeth Banks Apple TV Show Adds Rob Delaney To Cast (EXCLUSIVE)

EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off his second Emmy nomination for a supporting role opposite Michelle Williams in FX’s Dying for Sex, Rob Delaney has inked a deal to star alongside Elizabeth Banks in her new half-hour comedy series for Apple TV.

No word yet on the role to be played by Delaney. Created by Liz Heldens (Will Trent) and Matt Ward (Best Medicine), and set to kick off production in Los Angeles this year, the new series follows Heidi (Banks), who while fresh off a messy divorce, sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids. But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s retirement community sexcapades, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.

A frequent Apple hire, Delaney can currently be seen starring opposite Vince Vaughn in their darkly comedic crime drama series Bad Monkey, based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen. The show, from Ted Lasso and Rooster‘s Bill Lawrence, is heading into its second season. Delaney previously appeared in Apple’s Matthew Vaughn spy thriller Argylle, appears in its forthcoming Sian Heder drama Being Heumann, and is also serving as a consultant on its limited series adaptation of 2006 rom-com The Holiday.

FKA We’re All Gonna Die, Apple’s Banks-led series hails from 20th Television, where Will Trent co-developer, EP and co-showrunner Heldens is under an overall deal. The show had been set up at Apple TV since at least last fall and was picked up after securing a California tax credit.

Heldens and Ward are serving as showrunners and exec producing alongside Banks, Max Handelman and Krissy Wall through Brownstone Productions; Jonathan Krisel (Adults, English Teacher), who’s directing the pilot; Quinn Haberman and Heldens for Selfish Mermaid; and Jason Winer and Jon Radler for Small Dog Picture Company.

A two-time Emmy nominee, Delaney’s first nom came for Catastrophe, the lauded comedy for Channel 4 and Prime Video that he created with Sharon Horgan. Other upcoming projects on his slate include Laika’s Wildwood and Amazon MGM’s Road House 2. He is repped by UTA.
