The release of the next Fallout game in the mainline single-player series is unfortunately going to be quite a while away, with Bethesda squirreling away in order to get The Elder Scrolls VI out before fans of that franchise truly give up all hope of ever seeing it out in the wild.
Though there is a small sliver of hope given by the fact that the company overlaps development on major projects, it would be a huge surprise if we get to play Fallout 5 before the decade is out. That doesn’t mean we can’t have plenty of fun speculating on exactly what they are planning to cook up, and one potential setting in particular seems to be proving very popular with fans.
There are plenty of places where Bethesda could take the next Fallout game, with modders over the last year showing the potential of different cities in the United States and beyond. Over on Reddit, fans have been putting up posts stating their contention that the ideal locale for the upcoming release would be New Orleans.
The responses were filled with hundreds of fans essentially delighted at the prospect, with one saying, “A Fallout with fan boats and floating cities? A stolen Enclave rebreather to allow you to explore sunken buildings? Gatorclaws? Yea sign me up.”
“I think, and many other people think, Fallout: New Orleans would be incredible. It’s been thrown around as an idea by the community for years now, so much so that even one of the big YouTube channels that covers Fallout lore and makes builds for characters put together their ideal Fallout 5 which was, surprise, surprise, a Fallout: New Orleans concept,” another said.
“New Orleans would honestly be a really great setting. The Southern Gothic style mixed with post-apocalyptic Hoodoo and French architecture,” a third claimed under an entirely different post.
Whatever Bethesda does decide to do with the next game in the series, there are a ton of very exciting potential locations where they could base it. Though they will probably stick with the United States, purely based on the lore laid out in the existing games and other properties, the Fallout: London mod showed that they really could push the proverbial boat out and retain fans.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep playing the older Fallout games, which continue to offer the best window into the extremely bleak world that Bethesda currently stewards.

Fallout
Fallout is a post-apocalyptic RPG franchise set in an alternate future where a nuclear war devastates the world. Players explore vast, open worlds filled with mutants, raiders, and advanced technology. The series emphasizes player choice, allowing various approaches to combat, dialogue, and decision-making. Each game follows different protagonists navigating the wasteland to uncover secrets, form alliances, and rebuild civilization amidst the ruins of the old world. The franchise is known for its rich lore, dark humor, and retro-futuristic aesthetic, which has transferred over into its new series on Amazon Prime.
