Far Cry 7 Official Announcement Splits Gamers

While we’ve had a few official confirmations for upcoming Far Cry projects to keep an eye out for from Far Cry 7 to a new TV series, there’s been a painful lack of actual content from the series over the past five years. With the longest gap between mainline entries being only 4 years, it’s been a concerningly long time since the last official update.

Thankfully, after half a decade of waiting since the last entry in the franchise, Ubisoft finally offered a new piece of information regarding the upcoming release of Far Cry 7 that is already making waves in the community, but not all for the right reasons.

As shared by RagdollCatFan on Reddit, a recent Ubisoft financial report has revealed that the studio is preparing several releases for their biggest franchises, promising to deliver new entries for Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon, and most notably, Far Cry. While there’s no telling what order Ubisoft plans to release these upcoming games, it at least puts a cap on when we can expect to see Far Cry 7 by the latest.

While there has been plenty of excitement by fans who are hesitantly hopeful about “really looking forward to a new Far Cry,” not everyone feels the same way about the current release window. While the troubled development of Far Cry 7 hasn’t exactly been much of a secret, fans have pointed out that it “should be four years for a Far Cry game,” while claiming that “this long gap is concerning” for the series.

While fans have already been lamenting the current direction of the TV series following a few concerning statements by its creator, its not hard to see why the potential for a gap of “7–8 years between Far Cry 6 and 7” has been raising some red flags for players.

While the wait might be a little concerning, it does offer more chances for Ubisoft to polish the experience even more as we get closer to release, while hopefully honing in on what makes Far Cry still so popular today. Fans haven’t exactly been quiet about their franchise concerns for the series either, with fans sharing their hopes that Ubisoft moves away from the “reinvention of Far Cry they did with New Dawn and 6.”

Given that the last couple Far Cry releases haven’t been the best received out of the bunch despite their commercial success, the upcoming Far Cry 7 will have some pretty some even bigger shoes to fill after the lengthy wait, which will likely see even more leaks ahead of its full release.​​​​​
