Gore Verbinski’s New R-Rated Sci-Fi Thriller Is Officially Hulu’s #1 Movie On Streaming Charts

Gore Verbinski‘s new sci-fi thriller is unlocking its own streaming multiverse in a good way.

The filmmaker was responsible for putting the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise on the map after helming the first three movies and projects like the horror film The Ring. After a strong showing in the 2000s, Verbinski became more selective with his projects in the 2010s. However, after A Cure for Wellness’ critical and commercial failure and the unmade Gambit movie, the director didn’t work on a new feature movie for nearly nine years until recently, with his time-traveling flick Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.

Now, the new thriller is performing exceptionally well on streaming after just one day. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is currently no. 1 on Hulu’s streaming charts, ahead of Million Dollar Nannies, General Hospital, and the UK’s Long Island. It’s also making a presence across streaming platforms, cracking Disney+’s movie charts at No. 10. Every Toy Story movie has taken a spot in the top 5 since the fifth movie is now in theaters.

The streaming success across multiple platforms is a huge rebound for Verbinski. Despite the critical acclaim, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die didn’t have a strong box office, earning just $9.3 million against a $20 million budget. Interestingly, word-of-mouth was exceptional for the sci-fi thriller, so its theatrical run was extended after its February 2026 release.

Verbinski’s new sci-fi movie is his second-highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes with an 81%, just behind his animated film Rango (88%). Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die reviews praised the high-concept and timely story, which was compared to the Oscar-winning movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. The sci-fi flick has undertones of a profound message and satire. Sam Rockwell’s chaotic and charismatic performance is also the standout, alongside a strong cast of Zazie Beetz, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, and Juno Temple.

With an 85% audience score and strong word-of-mouth during its initial release, it’s no big surprise that Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is performing exceptionally well on streaming. It did well on video-on-demand in March 2026, so an early sign indicated that the movie would perform well through home viewing. Plus, critics and the audience argue that the new sci-fi thriller is a return to form for Verbinski, who doesn’t have any other projects lined up at this time.

In Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a man from the future travels to the past and recruits a group of civilians at a local diner to stop artificial intelligence. After multiple attempts, he wonders if his latest crew could be the one. Matthew Robinson wrote the movie’s story, while Verbinski also served as a producer alongside Robert Kulzer, Erwin Stoff, Oly Obst, and Denise Chamian.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu with Disney+.
