GTA Online Officially Confirms The End Of An Era

GTA Online has had an incredible run over the years, bringing players hundreds of hours of memorable experiences with others, and generating billions of dollars in revenue for developer Rockstar. The happy side effect of the latter is that it allows them to bring us a bigger sequel than we have ever seen before, and we are officially less than seven months out from the release of GTA VI.

That means that we are really on our final run through the calendar for this current iteration of GTA Online, and there are going to be a lot of painful goodbyes this year as we make our way through. Now, arguably one of the mode’s most iconic events is set to pass for the final time, before it disappears forever in a puff of smoke.

GTA Online Just Ushered In The End Of An Era

Over on Twitter/X, the official Rockstar Games page confirmed that the final edition of the 420 event is now live, and running through to April 29. As you would expect from an event like this one, there are a ton of time-limited rewards to collect.

First up, there’s a new Hunting Pack (Get Lamar) location that’s dispensing 4X Rewards, a new Stoner Survival mode, where you can claim your own Black LD Organics Tee for playing. The Stoner Survival mode in particular is one of the most out there creations the developer has brought out to date, where they describe it as follows:

“Fight off aliens, life-sized action figures, wrench-wielding clowns, and Cluckin’ Bell-uniformed chickens in the colorful chaos of Stoner Survival — a trippy new mode that activates at 4:20pm every day in Los Santos that’s dealing out 4X GTA$ and RP through April 22.”

The other major thing you’ll want to be aware of when playing is that if you can make it through five waves of Stoner Survival then that counts as a Weekly Challenge completion, and you’ll be rewarded with the Sasquatch Outfit and GTA$420,000, if you manage to get it done before Aprill 22.

GTA 6 Online Will Doubtless Have Similar Events

For those of you who are feeling sentimental at the prospect of this iteration of GTA Online going away, it’s a very safe bet that the new addition will feature very similar events once the developer gets the ball rolling in earnest. The only obvious caveat is that it doesn’t release at the same time as the single-player, but it’s a safe bet that we’ll be very busy getting all of that completed in the intervening period.
