Harry Shum Jr. On Reprising Roles In ‘Glee’ Revival & ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Series: “Would Love To Try & Find A Way To Make It Work”

Harry Shum Jr. is currently a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, and two franchises he’s been part of are getting continuations: Glee and Crazy Rich Asians.

On October 7, Deadline reported that HBO ordered a series of Crazy Rich Asians, and on October 21, Disney+ and Hulu ordered a Glee reboot.

“You know what? I love those two franchises,” Shum Jr. told Entertainment Weekly after his participation on DWTS. “Obviously, the last of [Crazy Rich Asians] ended on the characters that Gemma [Chan] and I play, so I would love to try and find a way to make it work.”

Shum Jr. played Charlie Wu in the 2018 Jon M. Chu-directed romantic comedy. The actor appeared in a mid-credits scene teasing his love story with Chan’s Astrid. Although the character was supposed to be the main focus of a Crazy Rich Asians sequel, it’s unclear whether Shum Jr. will reprise his role in the TV series.

The Glee announcement made no mention of actors who could reprise their roles, but Shum Jr. said that although he’s “currently really, really busy now,” he “would love to keep continuing because I love those franchises.”

Shum Jr. played Mike Chang on Glee, introduced in the fourth episode of the inaugural season. The actor recurred during the first two seasons before being promoted to regular for Seasons 3 and 4. He went on to continue appearing as Mike during the series’ final two seasons on Fox.

Deadline recently reported that OG Glee stars Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet were in talks to return to the Glee reboot, after previously reporting that Lea Michele was also in talks to reprise her role as Rachel Berry.
