Formerly known as HDFC Top 100 Fund, HDFC Large Cap Fund is one of HDFC Mutual Fund’s flagship equity schemes. Over more than three decades, it has navigated several market cycles, including the Asian financial crisis, the dot-com bust, the 2008 global financial crisis and the 2020 pandemic sell-off, along with multiple bull runs, the press release said.
The fund house said the scheme has remained focused on owning leading Indian businesses for the long term. This consistency, it added, has made it a core holding for generations of investors seeking to participate in India’s growth through its largest and most established companies.
The fund aims for long-term capital appreciation and income by investing mainly in large cap companies, the market leaders that tend to anchor India’s economy. As of September 30, 2026, the portfolio was spread across sectors including banking, telecommunications, consumer durables, petroleum products and pharmaceuticals, reflecting the breadth of India’s corporate landscape.
The scheme is managed by Rahul Baijal and Bhagyesh Kagalkar. The performance is benchmarked against Nifty 100 TRI.“Thirty years is a long time in markets, and HDFC Large Cap Fund has been through several market cycles in that time. This milestone belongs to our investors and partners and we are grateful for the trust they have placed in us across generations. Large caps are currently at decent valuations. Investors with a long horizon can consider large cap funds for potential wealth creation,” said Navneet Munot, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, HDFC AMC.
HDFC Large Cap Fund is suitable for investors who are seeking to generate long term capital appreciation/ income, and want investment predominantly in large cap companies.
“Big thanks to all our investors and partners who have been part of this 30-year journey of HDFC Large Cap Fund. It’s been a privilege to be associated with the fund. Large caps are generally well-established companies with a long track record. At present many of them are trading at relatively reasonable valuations, presenting opportunity for long-term investors,” said Rahul Baijal.
