Hogwarts Legacy: Should Sebastian Take The Relic?

[

During “In The Shadow Of Time,” players will be faced with one of the hardest choices in Hogwarts Legacy: whether to let Sebastian Sallow take the relic, or to convince him to leave it. The main decision here really comes down to roleplaying choices – and just how much of a dark witch or wizard the player would like to become. Luckily, for those worried about making the wrong choice, the solution to this Hogwarts Legacy dilemma is actually quite simple.

Letting Sebastian have the relic or not isn’t the only choice students will have to make during “In The Shadow Of Time,” though. It’s the sole opportunity to learn Imperio, the mind control spell, and even though becoming a Hogwarts Legacy dark wizard has pros and cons, this Unforgivable Curse can be a tremendous help in combat. It’s not required to learn Imperio to progress the quest, but this is an exclusive chance to learn the dark spell. After all, just like choosing whether Sebastian should take the relic in Hogwarts Legacy, it’s something that warrants a bit of extra consideration.

Players Have A Choice To Take Or Leave The Relic In Hogwarts Legacy’s “In The Shadow Of Time” Quest

Whether They Tell Sebastian He Needs It, Or To Leave It Alone

Over the course of the “In The Shadow Of Time” quest, players will eventually be faced with a dialogue choice. After a pretty intense battle, the player and Sebastian find the hidden Relic sitting with a note saying that it is dangerous to take it out of the catacomb they are in.

Players are given the choice of saying to Sebastian, “We should leave the Relic alone,” or, “We need that Relic.” The Relic is known to be a very dangerous dark artifact, with the power to summon Inferi. Sebastian wants it in the hope that it will have the power to cure his twin sister, Anne, who he believes is sick because of dark magic, but the moral dilemma here is strong.

Hogwarts Legacy: Should You Ask For More Money At The End Of Quests

Players can choose to be unethical in a plethora of ways, but does asking for rewards at the end of quests have consequences in Hogwarts Legacy?

At this point, Sebastian has already proven that he knows the Imperius Curse, and is willing to teach the player in the Catacomb. His connection with the Dark Arts is a dangerous one, and it is clear that his intensity of focus on using the evil magic to save his sister is a slippery slope. Players should consider the decision as a roleplay scenario to see what way their character would respond.

Sebastian Sallow Will Always Take The Relic In Hogwarts Legacy

No Matter The Players Choice, Sebastian Always Takes The Relic

Regardless of which dialogue option the player chooses, it won’t affect the outcome of the situation, because Sebastian will always end up taking the relic. If the player encourages him to proceed with his plan, he’ll unsurprisingly agree and take the relic. However, if they interject and express their second thoughts, Sebastian will emphasize that it’s for the sake of his sister Anne. He’ll move forward with taking the relic regardless.

This may seem like one of Hogwarts Legacy‘s most important choices, but it’s really not. The decision to let Sebastian have the relic is rather misleading because it initially appears as though the player will be able to sway Sebastian Sallow’s story in either direction. However, this really isn’t the case, since Sebastian ends up with the relic, regardless of which choice the player makes.

What Each House Member Would Do

In terms of the role-play element, there are ways you can make your choice based on what each House member would do:

  • Slytherin – “We need that Relic.” Slytherin would clearly take the Relic. There are very few students who wouldn’t be curious about dark magic, especially if they weren’t the ones who needed it. The concept of power would be intriguing enough to take the Relic alone, making it an easy choice for any Slytherin student.
  • Ravenclaw – Both Choices Ravenclaw favors intelligence and has produced some dark wizards. Depending on the circumstances, there is a chance they could go with either option. It would also depend on how they viewed Sebastian as a friend, so keep this in mind when making your choice.
  • Gryffindor – “We should leave the Relic alone.” Although Gryffindor students are known for their curiosity and bravery, they would ultimately turn down the chance to take the Relic. They would have no trouble going inside on a quest, but would severely struggle with taking the Relic. However, they might be more comfortable with Sebastian than other house members.
  • Hufflepuff – “We should leave the Relic alone.” Described as trustworthy above all else, Hufflepuff, like Gryffindor, would likely turn down the ability to interact with dark magic. In fact, lore-wise, Hufflepuff has hosted the smallest number of dark magic users in all the houses. So, even more so than Gryffindor, they would without a doubt pass on meddling with the Relic. Their humility would make it even more difficult to understand Sebastian’s choice in the aftermath.

Hogwarts Legacy Dialogue Doesn’t Affect Character Relationships

Turning Down Sebastian Won’t Affect The Story Or Characters

In fact, the only real impact that either dialogue option will have is a comment from Ominis Gaunt, who has been eavesdropping on the player and Sebastian’s conversations during “In The Shadow Of Time.” If players tell Sebastian to take the relic in Hogwarts Legacy, Ominis will make his disappointment clear, taking up a bit of an attitude with the protagonist. However, his negative reaction won’t actually impact the friendship or story whatsoever. Players won’t be barred from any choices or actions at any point during the quest, regardless of whether they side with Sebastian over the relic.

In other words, it doesn’t matter in the slightest whether players let Sebastian take the relic during “In The Shadow Of Time.” The dialogue, characters, and story will stay the same. The only real outcome that can change happens earlier – with choosing to learn Imperio or not. This means the decision over the relic is really more of a roleplaying choice. Players who are trying to avoid the dark arts completely will likely want to do what’s morally right. However, those who don’t mind gray areas – or who want to be downright evil – will certainly want to learn Imperio and use it often.

What Happens To Sebastian In Hogwarts Legacy?

Sebastian Sallow is a flawed character in Hogwarts Legacy whose fate is ultimately in the player’s hands. What happens to him is deeply tragic.

This is certainly a missed opportunity in Hogwarts Legacy, but the reality of the situation is that the player’s input doesn’t affect the outcome. This can be great for those worried about changing too much of the story (since it really changes nothing). Players should feel free to make whichever choice suits their character or personality best.
