While the Momentum 4 may be a couple of years old now, and their successor the Sennheiser Momentum 5 have arrived, the Momentum 4 are still an excellent pair of headphones that I enjoy using every day.

Their main strength for me personally is their sound profile. While it’s on the more neutral side, as opposed to the more bass-centric sound of Sony for example, I find the Momentum 4 can cover a wide range of genres really well.

Whether it’s the delicate piano of ‘To Zanarkand’ from Final Fantasy X as I sit at my desk, the crunching, relentless guitars and drums of Dir En Grey or an electro-pop banger from Lady Gaga like ‘Abracadabra’, I’ve found the Momentum 4 do a great job offering punchy bass, clear trebles and highs, plus refined mid-tones — all well balanced and giving every aspect room to breathe.

During my travels I’ve found that the Momentum 4 offer excellent noise-cancelling, effectively shutting out loud conversations on busy public transport. Within the easy-to-use Smart Control app, you can control the level of ANC you want and its transparency setting in particular is excellent for busy city centres.

Battery life on the Momentum 4 is remarkable. I use them for multiple hours a day and rarely have to charge them more than once a week. Boasting a 60 hour battery life with ANC ON (yes, on) means the headphones can go. And go. And…

Aesthetically, the Momentum 4 are a little plain, and they don’t have a folding design like other headphones (see Sony WH-1000XM6), but I think the trade-off in design is worth it for the sound quality. In terms of comfort, I’ve personally worn these headphones for up to 10 hours in a row and never found them uncomfortable.

I bought these headphones for £249 ($320 converted) in November 2024, and I thought they were excellent value then, down from their $349 / £300 launch price. At $179.50 / £160, they’re a steal.
