Isaac Asimov Meets The Twilight Zone In Disney+’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Series

[

Disney+ has a variety of TV shows lined up for 2026 and early 2027, including a sci-fi series that feels like a combination of Isaac Asimov’s works and The Twilight Zone. Disney+ is home to some of the best TV shows of all time, both old TV shows and original streaming productions. In the latter category, Disney+ has found great success with shows from some of the studio’s biggest and most popular franchises, such as Star Wars, Alien, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the latter franchise, the TV shows have been key to its expansion and a complement to the movies, through which different characters have been introduced, and some loose ends from the movies have been addressed. With Avengers: Doomsday fast approaching, some shows will be a lot more important, and one of them might be the upcoming miniseries VisionQuest, starring Paul Bettany as Vision (though the version known among viewers as White Vision).

VisionQuest is the final entry in the trilogy formed by WandaVision and Agatha All Along, and it’s the long-awaited return of Vision. Like its predecessors, VisionQuest is planned to be a miniseries, and the first look at it has given the audience a taste of its tone, story, and the characters that will be accompanying Vision. VisionQuest is more than a sci-fi show, as it’s blending other genres just like WandaVision did, making it even more exciting.

VisionQuest Blends Sci-Fi, Drama, & Horror With MCU Lore

The original Vision was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, but his body was later experimented on, resulting in his white version. At the end of WandaVision, Vision’s original body had his memories restored by Hex Vision (the one created by Wanda inside Westview), declared himself the “true Vision,” and flew away. Vision hasn’t been seen or mentioned since then, and he’s finally coming back with his own show to continue his journey.

VisionQuest reunites the audience with Vision, who lives in hiding on the other side of the world, while he continues to understand who he really is, what he has been through, and what could be next for him. VisionQuest will take viewers inside Vision’s mind, where he interacts with the human avatars of the different AI programs inside of him, such as J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D’Arcy), E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady), and Ultron (James Spader).

The first trailer for VisionQuest shows Vision interacting with them inside his mind, so there are many sci-fi elements involved in the show, but also a good dose of drama and horror. Vision will be hunted by a currently unknown source, and he will also learn that one of his sons from Westview has been reincarnated, so he sets out to find him. Just like WandaVision, VisionQuest is blending genres and mixing them with MCU lore that will hopefully serve a purpose in the rest of this universe.

VisionQuest Can End The MCU’s TV Trilogy On A High Note

It has to be admitted that the MCU has had more failures than successes with its TV shows, but it started strong with WandaVision. Although interest in the MCU’s shows has decreased, VisionQuest could be the show that reignites interest and curiosity for them, as it’s already looking quite promising. VisionQuest feels similar to WandaVision while still being its own thing, and it stars one of the MCU’s most complex and deepest characters.

VisionQuest can also address some of the MCU’s many loose ends, especially those related to Ultron, through which it can not only close the WandaVision trilogy but also give closure to what movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron started. It’s to be seen if Vision will have a future after VisionQuest, and if his show can set up his return to bigger-scale adventures in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, but at least VisionQuest has great potential so far.
