Kelsey Grammer was the latest celebrity visitor to the Oval Office, as the actor met with Donald Trump or about an hour on Thursday.
The actor is in D.C. for a screening on Thursday evening of Young Washington, about the pre-Revolutionary War experiences of George Washington.
Grammer and Trump talked politics and their families, along with the movie, according to a source familiar with the visit. As is the case with other high profile visitors, Grammer left with a big bag of swag, including hats and a Bible, the source said. The president keeps a gift-shop like stock of memorabilia in a study adjacent to the Oval Office.
Young Washington is an upcoming theatrical feature from Angel Studios and Wonder Project, with a release on July 3, the weekend of the America 250 celebrations. Angel describes itself as a values driven media and entertainment company, with the Angel Guild, a community of 2.5 million paying members, or subscribers, who, in addition to accessing projects, vote on which films and TV series get produced and distributed.
Young Washington is directed by Jon Erwin and, in addition to Grammer, stars William Franklyn-Miller, Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Kingsley.
The film will be screened on Thursday at the National Portrait Gallery in a partnership with the U.S. State Department, which plans to screen it at U.S. embassies.
Angel Studios also announced that the movie will screen for free for U.S. veterans, a partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Angel Studios said in a statement, “We hope this film serves as a small expression of our gratitude to the men and women who, like the young Washington himself, answered the call to serve with courage, duty, and devotion.”
