Landman season 3 has been delayed to 2027, so we have plenty of time to speculate on where Tommy Norris’ story will go next. The fact that Landman’s filming schedule has been pushed back, so we won’t be getting new episodes on the regular schedule, is especially frustrating because of how tantalizing Landman’s season 2 finale was. The last season ended with a major shakeup to the status quo, as Tommy went out on his own and started a new company to compete with his former colleagues. He’s filled out the staff with all his friends and loved ones, so Landman season 3 will be a family affair, and it’ll feel more like a true ensemble show with everyone under the same roof, working toward the same goal.
There are a few possible directions that Taylor Sheridan could take Landman’s story in season 3. It’s the perfect opportunity to finally push Ainsley outside her comfort zone. When she goes off to college, she won’t be as spoiled or coddled or sheltered as she is at home with her parents (we already saw a hint of that at cheerleading camp), so it’ll force her to grow up and develop into a more mature, independent person.
If CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle is as big of a success as Tommy hopes it’ll be, then Landman season 3 could be a corporate revenge story. If Cami fails now that she doesn’t have Tommy as her reliable middleman, CTT might be able to buy M-Tex for cents on the dollar, allowing Tommy to get the ultimate poetic justice against his old business rival. Alternatively, if CTT isn’t a success and it starts bleeding money (which, frankly, seems like the more likely outcome), then Tommy could be in a lot of trouble with Gallino and the cartel.
Tommy Is Courting Disaster In Landman Season 3
When Tommy first announced this new business venture in Landman’s season 2 finale, he was full of hopes and dreams. This new company would be different; it was a chance for Tommy to cut his own corporate puppet-strings and go out on his own. Now that he’s not a middleman at M-Tex, and he’s running his own company, he can do things the way he thinks they should be done, and he can reap all the rewards for himself, completely independently.
It all sounds great, but it’s not quite practical. As dreamy as a fully independent, family-run business sounds, that’s not really what CTT is. Tommy left M-Tex to start his own company so he could be free from his money-grubbing overlords, but he’s funding his new company through Gallino, so he’ll still have a money-grubbing overlord to answer to. The season 2 finale felt like a fresh start, but Tommy could be right back where he started in season 3.
Tommy’s new company probably won’t turn a profit, but that’s okay; that’s not why he’s doing it. Tommy founding a family-run company feels like a direct response to his conversation with T.L. about how Tommy needs to overcome his fear of failure and focus on what really matters, his family. This new company likely won’t be very financially lucrative, but it’s an opportunity for Tommy to keep the people he loves closer, and connect with them by doing what he loves.
But, at the end of the day, it is a business, and the people putting up money will want to see some return on their investment. Tommy’s intentions are good, but he’s courting disaster in Landman season 3. If CTT doesn’t work, then Tommy could end up in massive debt with the cartel, and the more he owes them, the more horrific the punishment is likely to be.
