The live-action Gundam film has started production, Netflix has announced. We also have a full cast reveal and basic plot details from the streamer.
Production kicked off in Queensland, Australia, with a cast led by Sydney Sweeney of The Housemaid and Euphoria fame, and Noah Centineo, who is fresh from playing Ken Masters in the upcoming Street Fighter film. Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, Captain Gabriel Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery, and Timothy Ratliff in The White Lotus, is also in the movie.
Here’s the official blurb from Netflix:
Directed by Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth, Cold in July), the highly anticipated adaptation of the influential multimedia franchise will star Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo in a brand-new story set in the midst of a lengthy space war. Of course, there will be giant robots (aka mechs) involved — as well as a cast that includes actors from The White Lotus, Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Three, and many more.
And here’s an early description of the film, courtesy of Netflix:
The forthcoming live-action adventure movie will bring the defining mech franchise to life with an original story that follows rival mech pilots fighting on opposite sides of decades-long war between Earth and its space former colonies. “As shifting allegiances and a growing threat set them on a collision course for one another, they’re pulled into a high-stakes race across the stars that could define the fate of humanity. With awe-inspiring battles, intimate human emotion, and an epic cinematic scale, this is Gundam like it’s been seen before.”
