‘Onslaught’ Trailer: Adria Arjona Combats Super Soldiers In Adam Wingard Movie

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for Onslaught, a horror-infused actioner from You’re Next and Godzilla vs. Kong helmer Adam Wingard, which is slated for release in theaters on Friday, September 4.

Adria Arjona stars in Onslaught as an army sniper mother living in a desert trailer park who must fight to protect her family from an unexpected threat: a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers let loose from a nearby military facility.

Early in the trailer, we see Arjona settling into the desert community with her daughter, blasting pumpkins off stumps and acknowledging the feeling that she’s finally found a place that feels safe.

Later, we see Black Hawk helicopters flying, one by one, over the area.

“They’re up to something in the desert north of here,” Arjona says. “Some kind of secret base or some sh*t.”

Someone off camera tells us, “What you are witnessing here is a human equivalent of a heat-seeking missile. The perfect soldier.”

We get various glimpses of the super soldiers — their faces covered by balaclavas — with a character played by Rebecca Hall subsequently explaining, “We set out to create an ideal combatant to be deployed against the domestic populace. These men are conditioned to kill until they are stopped.”

Elsewhere, we get a look at a bleached blonde character played by Drew Starkey who seems to have been sent in to clean up the mess the military has wrought.

Opening against Paramount’s crime thriller By Any Means, starring Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as well as the Sundance horror flick Buddy and the Barbara Hammer doc Barbara Forever, Onslaught also stars Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn and Alex Pereira.

Wingard directed from a script by Simon Barrett, based on a story the two cooked up together. Producers on the project included Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Wingard, Jeremy Platt, Alexander Black, and Barrett.
