As The Devil Wears Prada 2 co-star Rachel Bloom walked the red carpet at the premiere for the 20th Century Studios movie with her husband Dan Gregor on Monday, the writing duo had their ABC pilot Do You Want Kids? on their minds.
The single-camera comedy pilot from 20th Television, about a husband and wife (Bloom, Rory Scovel) who in one universe have a baby and the other do not, has been completed and delivered to the network.
“It is in the bagm and you are catching us in the couple weeks that we are literally just waiting to see if ABC and 20th, which is this corporation, will order us to series,” Bloom told Deadline. “We feel wonderful about it, and everyone seems to really love it so far. We worked really hard on it, and we’re immensely proud of it.”
As Deadline has reported, reaction to Do You Want Kids? at ABC has been mixed, with the pilot’s pickup odds considered 50-50.
In their Deadline interview, Bloom and Gregor spoke about working together on the pilot, which they wrote and executive produced.
“It’s like marriage condensed into a little bit of work,” Gregor said.
Added Bloom, “If you want to make a marriage a dimension more difficult, write together. But also, we have been writing comedy for so long, this was just by far the most personal we have done together.”
To make it work, they had set boundaries going in. Top of Gregor’s list: “No notes in bed.”
