‘Slow Horses’ Star’s 126-Minute Sci-Fi Classic Officially Finds a New Streaming Home

[

The hit spy thriller Slow Horses remains one of the best shows on streaming, with the most recent sixth season proving immensely popular once again. After Ted Lasso‘s fourth season dominated the Apple TV charts for months, Slow Horses finally topped it, taking the #1 spot in the U.S. following the sixth season finale, “Judgment Day.” Two more seasons of cynical nihilism from Head of Slough House, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), have already been confirmed, set to continue the show’s run of producing a season each year.

With the wait now on for another season of Slow Horses, one of Oldman’s best projects is proving a popular time-filler. Directed by Luc Besson and co-written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, The Fifth Element is one of the most misunderstood sci-fi movies of its time. Viewers might’ve expected a typical Hollywood blockbuster, but what they instead got was a convention-altering piece of subversive genius led by Bruce Willis, Oldman, and Milla Jovovich. In retrospect, it has been reevaluated as a forward-thinking, inventive gem that has earned a long-standing and dedicated fanbase.

That very fanbase has been helping the film storm the streaming charts. At the time of writing, The Fifth Element is one of the ten most-watched movies on Tubi in the U.S. Against a reported $95 million budget, the movie earned a global haul of $264 million in a strong theatrical run, despite the somewhat mixed reception. The movie opened at #1 at the North American box office, eventually earning enough to become the ninth highest-grossing film of 1997 worldwide.

A ‘Slow Horses’ Star Is a Bond Favorite

Slow Horses star Jack Lowden, known for playing up-and-coming MI5 agent River Cartwright, is one of the top favorites to take over the vacant role of James Bond. Amazon’s acquisition of the iconic franchise will require the perfect lead, with the hunt for the next star expected to come to an end before the year. “My fingers are crossed for Jack,” Oldman said in a previous interview, approving of his co-star’s chances, although the current frontrunner is Callum Turner.
