La Flèche Wallonne 2026 – Preview

To win Fleche Wallone you need nerves of steel and you need to time your explosive sprint at just the right moment to dispatch your rivals on the 26% slopes of the dreaded Mur de Huy. That is, unless you’re Tadej Pogačar who is able to ride off when and where he wants, making those flailing behind him look like amateurs.

Pogačar has gracefully declined to ride this year though, maybe this race is just too easy for him now so the door is open for someone else to claim a win on the toughest finish in world cycling.

It would have been the perfect opportunity for Tom Pidcock to add another great race to his CV but alas he has opted to ride the Tour of the Alps instead. So the favourites will be Bahrain Victorious’ Lenny Martinez, last year’s second placed rider Kevin Vauquelin and the hottest property in world cycling right now Paul Seixas.

Also watch out for Mattias Skjelmose, Giulio Ciccone and Romain Gregoire.

The race starts in Liege covering 200 kilometres from start to finish with multiple climbs such as the Côte d’Ereffe, the Côte de Cherave and three ascents of the Mur de Huy.
