Xbox Game Pass Officially Adding 10/10 Horror Masterpiece On October 29

[

Not all games are made equally. When it comes to horror games, they are a dime a dozen and sometimes a lot of them aren’t worth your while. Cheap jump scares or non-existent narratives in favor of gore can feel frustrating when you just want a good scare. Well, luckily for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, this spooky season, you can get your hands on a deeply disturbing psychological horror game that doesn’t waste your time. Winner of the ‘Best Hidden Gem’ award at the New York Game Awards 2025, the misadventures of Captain Curly and his crew are not to be missed.

According to the official Xbox news website, all lucky Xbox Game Pass subscribers should mark their calendars for October 29, 2026. On that date you’ll be able to play Mouthwashing, the first person psychological horror adventure game by the rather talented team, Wrong Organ. You play as one of a few survivors aboard a freight spaceship adrift in the vast blackness of space after an explosion. Tensions mount as you and the small crew on board slowly begin to realize that help is not on its way and that perhaps your mind is playing tricks on you.

The visuals in Mouthwashing are strikingly retro. This low poly game wouldn’t look out of place running on a PC from the late 90’s but it does an incredible job of immersing you through an amazing narrative and a non-linear timeline that’ll keep you guessing until the very end. Should you trust your fellow crew mates or is everyone and everything just a trick of the mind? Mouthwashing goes to some pretty dark places throughout the roughly 3 hour playthrough. But even once the credits roll, Mouthwashing will stick with you for a very long time after.

Mouthwashing doesn’t feature any traditional combat and has more of a focus on narrative and puzzle solving. This doesn’t take away from the sense of dread though, and the way the story expertly jumps back and forth in time makes for quite a few dark reveals that feel like a brick to the face. With the onboard limitless supply of mouth wash having a high level of alcohol in it, will you self-medicate until the inevitable or escape this nightmare without losing your mind in the process?

Mouthwashing is only one of a few of the new additions to the Game Pass catalog with a horror theme. The Seance of Blake Manor arrives on 27, October and Artic Eggs has been on the platform since last week. While the end of October sees many titles leaving Game Pass, it’s nice to see great indie horrors like these getting a chance to shine. Plenty of psychological trauma awaits those with a penchant for Indie horror titles. While some might be looking forward to games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme remake, others will appreciate a good scare instead, just in time for Halloween.

Mouthwashing is available for free to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers on October 29, 2026. For any horror aficionados, it is well worth checking out and the short run-time doesn’t take away from the incredible experience. Mouthwashing doesn’t waste your time and lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. With Mouthwashing arriving in just a few days, there’s plenty of time to get it completed before Grand Theft Auto 6 rolls into town and dominates our lives. Mouthwashing is a masterclass in storytelling and the perfect palette cleanser for big budget games, so to speak.
