Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Fan Remake Officially Stops After 10 Years Of Work

[

It was during the recent Nintendo Direct showcase that fans finally received news of an official The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Expected to launch later this year for the Nintendo Switch 2, it will mark the second remake of the 1998 Zelda title, with the first arriving back in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Following multiple rumors and insider information that a next-gen remake was definitely happening, it has now been officially confirmed by Nintendo itself, and although it is an exciting time for fans of the original, or those who want to check out what is considered one of the greatest video games of all time, it is sad news for another creator.

That is because creator CryZENx has spent the past few years working on an unofficial remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for PC. Created using Unreal Engine 5, CryZENx has not only released regular updates to their YouTube channel, but they have also provided fans with a way to try out the remake themselves, courtesy of multiple demos. However, in a heartbreaking update, CryZENx has revealed that they have ceased development for their The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

The good news is that this announcement does not come as the result of a Cease and Desist letter by Nintendo, which is something that fans have been worried about. The real reason is still to do with Nintendo, but it is a lot less alarming. Quite simply, CryZENx sees no reason to continue with an unofficial remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time if an official one is now in development.

Nevertheless, it is still sad news considering how much work CryZENx has put into this project, especially as they have nowhere near the amount of resources as Nintendo, and yet the results were still stunning. Luckily, the creator is still keeping the demos up and available to download so you can check them out at any time.

However, it is not all doom and gloom as CryZENx has revealed that this is not the end of their unofficial remakes. As such, they are currently deciding which project they want to work on next and, I don’t know about you, but they have some absolute bangers on the list. It includes: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Donkey Kong 64, MDK, Turok, or Sonic Adventure 2. After putting the games in a poll for their followers to decide, it seems as though The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is on top and, as such, this could be CryZENx next major project.

For now, fans can look forward to an official The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launching later this year, and let us hope that it lives up to the one created by CryZENx.
