With the next generation of consoles poised to start releasing in the coming years, PlayStation fans in particular have been sweating it out thinking about how costly the PlayStation 6 could end up being. Already, current-gen console prices and the PS5 in particular have spiked in recent months due to chip shortages, the cost of tariffs being passed to consumers, inflation, etc., and it doesn’t seem likely that will change for next-gen hardware.
Beyond the cost of the next PS console, players have been speculating about the release window for PS6, with rumors suggesting we could see it as soon as next year. However, a recent report from reputable leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead on YouTube hints at some surprising details about the PlayStation 6, including three separate unique console options, potential pricing levels, and a possible release window (via Gaming Bible).
Three New PlayStation Consoles May Arrive In 2027
While there’s still no official confirmation on any PlayStation 6 details and leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, Moore’s Law suggests that players can expect to see a PlayStation 6 console as early as 2027, and that there will be three distinct models on offer at varying price points. Surprisingly, the leak suggests that there will be a “PS6 Lite” and handheld option made available at a lower cost, made possible thanks to a unique AMD chipset called “Canis.”
Moore’s Law suggests that the three upcoming PlayStation 6 console models will be priced as follows:
|
PlayStation 6 |
$699–$999 |
|
PS6 Handheld |
$499–$699 |
|
PS6 “Lite” |
$359–$549 |
Interestingly, Sony appears poised to introduce a new “budget-tier” console at a much lower price point, which could enable more gamers to make the jump to the next generation, though it’s certain to have its drawbacks as well in terms of performance, storage, etc. Ultimately, while still unofficial, multiple reports over the past year have indicated that the base PS6 is going to cost gamers an arm and a leg.
The PlayStation 6 Won’t Come Cheap
While it’s promising that Sony would introduce more options for gamers at more reasonable prices, upgrading to the next generation of PlayStation consoles as soon as 2027 is simply out of the question for most players on a budget. Even with a more affordable PS6 option, many gamers simply aren’t ready to retire their PS5s just yet.
No matter your thoughts on the release window for the PlayStation 6, it’s undeniable that gaming has become more expensive than ever, and if you want to get your hands on the next-gen of consoles, you’ll want to start saving now.
