Although Jason Statham has had a poor year at the box office, several of his movies continue to dominate the home video charts. In January, Statham starred in the action-thriller Shelter, which opened to positive reviews. However, the movie underperformed commercially, ending its theatrical run with around $53 million worldwide against a reported $50 million budget. Statham will have to wait until next January to bounce back; this is when he’ll return as the titular character in The Beekeeper 2. While Shelter wasn’t able to break through at the box office, the movie continues to do exceptionally well on streaming. It has now been joined by another well-received film starring Statham.
According to FlixPatrol, the older Statham title is currently among the most-watched movies on the global HBO Max charts. It placed higher on the leaderboard than Steven Spielberg‘s all-time classic Jaws, but trailed newer releases such as They Will Kill You and Black Phone 2. The movie in question was a spoof on James Bond-style espionage movies, which is a funny coincidence, with two 007 hits charting on Netflix concurrently. While Statham’s film dominated the HBO Max rankings, No Time to Die and Skyfall secured spots on the Netflix chart.

This Is Jason Statham’s Top-Rated Movie Ever
The Statham hit we’re talking about, of course, is Spy. The movie was released during a particularly legendary streak involving director Paul Feig and star Melissa McCarthy. The streak began with Bridesmaids, which grossed $290 million worldwide against a reported budget of $32 million, and continued with the buddy cop movie The Heat, which earned around $230 million worldwide against a reported budget of $43 million. Spy concluded the unconnected trilogy, grossing $235 million globally against a reported budget of $65 million. Also featuring Jude Law and Rose Byrne, the film holds a “Certified Fresh” 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website’s consensus reads, “Simultaneously broad and progressive, Spy offers further proof that Melissa McCarthy and writer-director Paul Feig bring out the best in one another — and delivers scores of belly laughs along the way.”
