Prince George to Attend Eton, Prince William & Prince Harry Alma Mater

“I get all the details,” he said during a panel discussion for BBC Radio 1’s Life Hacks: Mental Health Special Feb. 18, “which I love, you know, it’s amazing.” 

But that level of dialogue not only keeps William attuned to his children’s feelings, it also makes him want to solve their problems—an instinct the 44-year-old is trying to combat. 

“You feel a sense that you need to fix it, for everyone and that I find quite difficult,” William explained. “I have to remind myself that you don’t need to fix everything, but you need to listen and it’s important just to be OK with those feelings and those comments.”

While the dad of three acknowledged that an unhealthy approach to mental health struggles has been passed down intergenerationally, he emphasized how it’s up to parents today to teach their kids better coping skills.

“You have to talk about your emotions,” he explained. “You can’t just bottle them up and pretend they don’t exist.”
